One of the more important pieces of workout ‘equipment’ is a good pair of shoes, right? But I like to go barefoot…maybe it’s becos I have flat feet, or maybe it’s becos I was brought up on Maui and we used to go barefoot a lot…especially on the beach – or it could be the combination of both. I personally think that shoes are confining and wear flip flops (or slippahs as we call them in Hawaii) and sandals as often as possible. A year ago I started experimenting with working out barefoot and there are some workouts where I felt comfortable exercising au naturale (foot-wise, that is 😉 ). I found that it was easier to do it on carpet and when I did my stretch routines. But I wanted to go beyond that. I had heard a lot of hubbub about these toe shoes and did some research. I ended up purchasing a pair of Vibrams KSO Sports – and immediately loved them! They fit like a glove (almost like I was barefoot) and I wear them quite a bit, especially for cardio workouts. I don’t like them so much for weight training as I find I need more support when lifting heavy weights. The other thing I can’t do with them is walk on our gravel road cos it’s too gravelly (is that a word?). How about you? Are you a shoe or barefoot exerciser?
