I know I was desperate to do something different and get back into feeling healthy and not feel so out of shape. Fat and frumpy was NOT my style! Like I mentioned in another post, I didn’t know how to and had nearly accepted that I just can’t lose weight. That’s what started me on my search that led to my purchase of Tony Horton’s Power 90 thru the Beachbody infomercial. I needed structure and someone to tell me what to do and Power 90 fit the bill.
Throughout the years, I have learned that a successful fitness journey is made up of three components – activity, good nutrition and a positive attitude. I had the attitude, I bought the activity and I had to learn the good nutrition. Now the good news is that a person can get started without buying anything and if you can follow directions and possess determination, you can be successful. It is recommended that 3 to 4 cardio workouts a week and 2 to 3 strength training workouts a week be done. If you’re a beginner, check with your doctor, then start out slowly – baby steps. If you are consistently doing even 10 minutes a day, it will help make your heart stronger, get you in a habit and help with your endurance. In no time, you will be able to – even want to do more. Strength training does not have to be overwhelming. You can even start out with lifting cans of soup or tomato sauce, etc. to build up muscle strength. I used to do this when I would go visit family and didn’t pack my weights (for obvious reasons). Strength training is important becos it builds muscles and muscles will burn fat. And women, it will not bulk you up.
As far as proper nutrition goes, here is how you can transition from eating unhealthily to healthy. You don’t have to buy anything special, just replace the junk with cleaner, healthier versions. Space your meals/snacks so that you are eating every 2 to 3 hours and don’t eat within 3 hours of going to bed. Drink LOTS of water (eight 8 oz. glasses is recommended). Our bodies are made up of mostly water and if we are not keeping it hydrated, then things go haywire.
And last, but not least in this equation is our attitude….our way of thinking and looking at things. If we think we can, we’re right. And if we think we can’t, we’re right. I believe all our actions start with our thoughts and those thoughts resonate throughout our cells and our subconscious and turn into actions. Actions will make habits and good habits will make us successful. A great book to start learning and practicing PMA (positive mental attitude) is The Tongue: A Creative Force by Charles Capps. You will be surprised at what such a little “tool” can possess 🙂
Do these steps consistently, believe it will happen and pretty soon you won’t be feeling out of shape.
Here’s to your success!
You nailed it right there at the end! It’s all about attitude! Great post!
